EU Conference and Awards Ceremony 2003On the 27th March 2003, the European Commission announced the list of 100 Best Workplaces in the European Union 2003, and three Special Awards for excellence in the fields of Diversity, Gender Equality and Lifelong Learning. The awards were presented by Anna Diamantopoulou, European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs at a Conference and Awards Ceremony in Brussels. The workplaces are honoured for the quality of their workplace environments, as determined by the Great Place to Work® survey process analysing both corporate policies and employee judgements on their own organisations. The recognized organisations were selected from among the more than 1,000 partici-pating organisations, including private and public companies, government agencies and NGOs. A total of approximately 210,000 employees in all 15 member states par-ticipated in the survey process. Of these, 124,196 employees completed questionnaires. A Jury, selected by the Commission, picked the three Award winners among 11 short-listed companies. The Jury was chaired by Mr. Pehr Gyllenhammar, Chairman of Aviva, former executive chairman of Volvo and founder of the European Round Table of Industrialists. An estimated 400 invited guests from participating organisations, the press and other stakeholders attended this high-profile event in Le Plaza Hotel in Brussels organised by Great Place to Work® Institute Europe.
